The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sokoto State chapter, has commiserated with the families of victims who lost their lives in the recent boat accident at the Kojiyo River in Goronyo Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement issued to journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal.

The PDP urged the authorities concerned to intensify rescue operations to account for those still missing and to provide urgent support to the affected families.

Sanyinnawal further stated that the party was committed to collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure that the victims’ families received the necessary assistance.

The party also called on the government to prioritise safety measures on waterways to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies, stressing that the incident should serve as a wake-up call to improve the safety of riverine communities.

“To the bereaved families, may the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may their loved ones find solace in the outpouring of love and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult time,” the statement read.

The party assured the people of the state of its solidarity, sharing in their grief and praying for the safe recovery of those still unaccounted for.

A boat carrying 51 passengers, goods, and motorcycles capsized on Sunday at the Kojiyo River. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday confirmed the rescue of 26 persons, while the search for 25 missing passengers was still ongoing.
