The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, has applauded the appointment of Malam Abubakar Bawa as Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor of Sokoto State, describing the development as a well-deserved recognition of professionalism and dedication.

By Usman Mohammed Binji

In a statement jointly signed by the NUJ State Chairman, Usman Mohammed Binji, and Secretary, Muhammad Nasir Bello, the union commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu, PhD, for appointing a seasoned journalist and committed union member to such a vital role in the state’s communication machinery.

“Malam Bawa’s appointment is a clear recognition of his professionalism and outstanding service. His humility, work ethic, and strategic insight are assets that will undoubtedly strengthen the media and information structure of the current administration,” the statement read.

The NUJ noted that Bawa, who previously served as Press Secretary to the Governor, has demonstrated consistency, clarity in communication, and a deep grasp of the media landscape throughout his career.

The union expressed confidence in Bawa’s ability to effectively project the policies and programmes of the Sokoto State Government and fulfill his new responsibilities with excellence.

In addition, the NUJ praised Governor Aliyu for upholding merit and excellence in his appointments and urged continued support for the Sokoto Council of the union in areas such as media development, ethical journalism, and capacity building.

Reaffirming its commitment to collaboration, the NUJ pledged to continue working closely with the state government in promoting good governance, transparency, and public enlightenment across Sokoto State.
