A 27-year-old man, Ismaila Aliyu, who allegedly stabbed a complainant, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Aliyu is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and causing breach of peace.

He appeared before Magistrate, Mr. L.J.K. Layeni and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Dr. Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 25 at the tradefair complex in Ojo.

He alleged that a misunderstanding had ensued between the defendant and a complainant, one Chigbuo Oba, following illegal collection of revenue at the complex.

According to him, the complainant had resisted the said illegal revenue collection by the defendant, which resulted in a fight.

He alleged that the defendant consequently stabbed the complainant in his left hand, causing bodily harm.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also conducted himself in an unruly manner likely to cause breach of public peace.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 3 for trial.
