In a generous show of support and appreciation, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has donated 1,000 Saudi Riyals—equivalent to ₦450,000—to each of the 3,200 pilgrims from the state currently performing the Hajj as Sallah gift.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the governor’s visit to the Sokoto contingent in Mina, where he congratulated the pilgrims on the successful completion of their spiritual journey.
Governor Aliyu said the Sallah gift was intended to offer financial relief to the pilgrims as they prepare for their return to Nigeria.
“I want to thank you most profoundly for being good ambassadors of our dear state in this holy land. I am indeed very proud of you,” he said. “I equally appreciate your maturity and high sense of responsibility while undertaking the Hajj rituals.”
The governor expressed satisfaction with the pilgrims’ overall conduct, noting that none were found violating Saudi laws throughout their stay.
He reassured them of his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of pilgrims and all residents of Sokoto State.
Governor Aliyu also commended the State Amirul Hajj, Ummarun Kwabo, for his tireless efforts to ensure a smooth and successful pilgrimage. He extended the same appreciation to the officials of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for their dedication and organizational efficiency.
“Your teamwork and commitment played a critical role in the success of this year’s Hajj. Sokoto is proud of you all,” the governor noted.
In a solemn moment, Governor Aliyu used the occasion to condole with pilgrims from Gudu and Shagari Local Government Areas over the demise of Hajiya Hadiza and Bala Jangebe, who passed away during the pilgrimage. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on their souls and comfort for their grieving families.
The governor urged the pilgrims to intensify prayers for Nigeria, especially for divine intervention in overcoming the nation’s persistent challenges, particularly insecurity.
“No matter the effort we are putting into addressing insecurity, prayer remains the best weapon to end the insecurity that has been crippling our development,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, Ummarun Kwabo, the State Amirul Hajj, thanked Governor Aliyu for his exceptional support, which he said greatly contributed to the success of the 2025 Hajj operations.
He noted that all committees formed for the pilgrimage worked diligently to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for the pilgrims.
