COAS appoints senior officers to strategic commands, staff positions

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the posting and appointment of several senior officers to key command, staff, and instructional positions across the Nigerian Army.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, on Thursday, the redeployments are aimed at strengthening leadership, enhancing command structures, and boosting operational effectiveness across the force.

Among the newly appointed officers is Major General Bamidele Alabi, who moves to the Army Headquarters Department of Policy and Plans as Chief of Policy and Plans (Army). Major General Jamal Abdulsalam, formerly Chief of Special Services and Programmes, has been posted to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Operations. At the same time, Major General Peter Mala moves from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) as Commander.

Also, Major General Samson Jiya has been redeployed from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC) to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget.

Other notable postings include Major General Mayirenso Saraso as Chief of Operations (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi as Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, and Major General Abubakar Haruna as Commander, Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora.

Major General Godwin Mutkut has been appointed Corps Commander, Infantry; Major General Umar Abubakar as Commander Armour Corps; and Major General John Adeyemo as Corps Commander Artillery. Similarly, Major General Mohammed Abdullahi will now serve as Corps Commander Signals. At the same time, Major General Abdullahi Ibrahim, Major General Adeyinka Adereti, and Major General Nansak Shagaya were posted as Corps Commanders of Ordnance, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and Supply and Transport, respectively.

In the academic and training sphere, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. Major General Emmanuel Mustapha was appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army Signal School; Major General Adamu Hassan now heads the Nigerian Army School of Artillery; and Brigadier General John Bulus takes charge as Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Accounts.

For field operations, Major General Saidu Audu has been named Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in N’Djamena, Chad; Major General Warrah Idris will command the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA; while Major General Oluremi Fadairo becomes General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu, and Commander of Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA.

At the Defence Headquarters, Major General Olatokumbo Bello has been appointed Director of Defence Media Operations, and Brigadier General Samaila Uba will serve as Director of Defence Information.

The COAS charged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and strategic foresight in carrying out their duties. He urged them to sustain ongoing operational momentum, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and uphold the Army’s core values of loyalty, selfless service, integrity, and excellence.
