The All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi state, retired Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar said he had sponsored 201 indigenes to study at Malikiya College of Health and Social Sciences in the state.

Abubakar, while speaking at the formal presentation of the scholarship packages to the students in Bauchi, noted that the education sector was neglected.

He advised the students to take their studies seriously, to excel and become useful to the society.

“Health education is vital to the existence of the society, so, take your studies seriously,” he said.

According to him, the sponsorship is for the two years of their studies in the college.

The APC candidate assured of continued support to indigent and vulnerable people in the society in his capacity.

“If elected as the next governor, the administration will build on sponsorship of students and improve the education sector,” he said.

He assured the proprietor that if elected, his administration would revisit the partnership with the government and review it, because education was something that the government alone could not shoulder.

Earlier, Aminu DanBauchi, Proprietor of the College, said partnerships between the public and private sectors had become a common strategy for responding to the global public health crises.

“Such crises were HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria at both the national and international levels.

He said the success of the establishment of the Malikiya College was to help the government to achieve its manpower needs in the health sector.

The proprietor added that the College intended to offer courses in all Health and Social Sciences and affiliate with universities at home and abroad to run full medical courses to produce Medical Doctors and other health professionals in the future.

The college is accredited to courses including Dental Surgery Technician (DST), Medical Laboratory Science (MLT), Community Health Extension Worker (Fresh), Community Health Extension Worker (RE-Trainee),

The Proprietor, however, lauded the effort of the sponsor for the partnership and encouragement for the college to thrive.
