By Uthman Baba-Sirajdeen, Minna [ASHENEWS] July 7, 2025: The Chief Magistrate Court No. 2 in Minna, Niger state has ordered the remand of four persons over an alleged attempt to commit culpable homicide.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Rahmatu Adamu Gado issued the remand order, stating that her court lacked jurisdiction to try the case as the charges are capital in nature.
The defendants, Shaibu Usman, Mohammed Ibrahim, Sunsuda Santali, and Liman Kudu, are all residents of Kudu in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. They are facing four-count charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, house trespass, attempt to commit culpable homicide, and mischief and theft.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta, the offences are punishable under Sections 60, 349, 327, and 386 of the Niger State Penal Code Law.
A charge sheet marked CMC/2/CR/46/2025, presented in court and obtained by this reporter, stated that one Sarki Garkuwa Tanko Usman had reported the matter at Magistrate Court No. 7, located in the Minna High Court complex. He alleged that on May 6, 2025, at about 8:20 a.m., the four accused persons trespassed into his home, destroyed property, stole N3 million in cash, and beat him “to a pulp.”
When the charges were read, all the defendants pleaded not guilty.
The police prosecutor informed the court that investigations were still ongoing and requested the court to remand the defendants in correctional custody and fix a new date for the case.
Defense counsel, Barrister Abubakar Sadiq Buhari, made an oral application for their bail, but the Chief Magistrate directed him to file a formal motion.
She subsequently ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned the case to July 17, 2025, for further mention.
