Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has categorically distanced himself from a statement credited to the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Council, Abdullahi Yerima, urging northern leaders to support the former Sokoto State Governor as Vice President in the 2027 general elections.

The claim, which was published by the New Telegraph in a story titled “2027 Aspirations: Northern Leaders Urged to Support Wamakko” (link), has been described by Wamakko as “false, baseless, and highly irresponsible.”

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Abdallah Shehu el-Kurebe, Senator Wamakko made it clear that he has never—publicly or privately—expressed interest in becoming Vice President, either in the upcoming election or at any time in the past.

“The said statement by Abdullahi Yerima is not only unauthorized but also a reckless and deliberate act of political mischief, intended to mislead the public and drag the name of the Distinguished Senator into needless and unfounded political speculation,” the statement said.

Wamakko, who currently represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, called on Yerima to immediately retract the statement and tender an unreserved apology to him and his family, warning against any further actions that could damage his reputation or misrepresent his political intentions.

“Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko remains focused on serving the people of Sokoto State and the nation through responsible leadership and political maturity,” the statement added. “He should not be drawn into opportunistic narratives concocted for selfish motives.”

The development has stirred political ripples across the state, as observers weigh the implications of what Wamakko’s camp has described as a “gross misrepresentation” of the Senator’s political position.

Wamakko, a former governor and influential political leader in Northern Nigeria, has long maintained a low-profile stance on the 2027 elections, focusing instead on governance, party unity, and grassroots development.
