Burkina Faso has introduced its first domestically manufactured military patrol vehicle, the LX70. This development underscores the nation’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities through local innovation. The move is in the country’s significant stride towards military self-reliance.

The LX70, a light-armored patrol pickup truck, was conceptualized and constructed entirely within Burkina Faso. Equipped with a thermal imaging system and other standard military-grade features, the vehicle is designed to meet the operational needs of the country’s security forces.

Currently, the LX70 is on display at the SYNERGIE SURETE, DEFENSE & SECURITE (SYSDEF) 2025 exhibition, held at the banquet hall adjacent to Peals Court in the Ouaga 2000 district of Ouagadougou. SYSDEF serves as a platform for showcasing advancements in defense and security technologies, attracting participants from various sectors, including international defense companies.

The unveiling of the LX70 aligns with Burkina Faso’s broader strategy to enhance its military infrastructure amid ongoing security challenges in the Sahel region. The country’s efforts include diversifying its defense partnerships and investing in both foreign acquisitions and domestic production of military equipment.
