Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has inaugurated the Projects and Contracts Verification Committees for the state and senatorial zones, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to quality infrastructure and transparency.
At the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Governor Aliyu highlighted the administration’s determination to ensure that all projects executed meet specified standards, benefitting citizens across the state.
“These committees were set up because of our genuine desire to ensure that the electorate across the state gets quality projects in line with the specifications given by the state government,” he stated.
The committees are tasked with verifying various state and local government projects, including roads, feeder roads, mosques, Islamiyya schools, health centers, classrooms, and water projects. Governor Aliyu underscored that these initiatives aim to improve the living conditions of Sokoto State residents.
“Our goal is to achieve value for money for all our projects and programs by ensuring no compromise on quality,” the governor emphasized.
He acknowledged the integrity and dedication of the committee members, urging them to conduct their assignments with honesty, diligence, and a fear of God. “You were chosen for this task considering your proven integrity, honesty, dedication, and patriotism,” he noted.
The committees’ terms of reference include:
- Identifying contracts awarded by the state government.
- Identifying ongoing and abandoned projects across the state.
- Assessing the level of work completed on ongoing and abandoned projects.
- Reviewing payments made and identifying outstanding balances, if any.
- Confirming the validity of payment certificates issued by supervising ministries before recommending payments to the government.
- Providing periodic reports on all ongoing and abandoned projects.
Governor Aliyu called for thorough and unbiased execution of their responsibilities, urging them to prioritize accountability and public interest.
The governor concluded the event by officially inaugurating the committees, reiterating his administration’s focus on transparency, due process, and value-driven governance.
“Carry out your assignments with diligence, honesty, and sincerity, without fear or favour,” he charged the committee members.
The event marked a significant step in the administration’s drive for accountability and infrastructure improvement across Sokoto State.
