The paramount chief of Gidan Gimba in Karu local government area of Nasarawa state, Danjuma Audu has commended Rotary Club Abuja CBD for commencing the construction of classrooms and toilets at the community’s Central Primary School.

Audu, while expressing pleasure over the project, said the facilities, when completed, would help in decongesting the existing block of two classrooms and stopping of open defecation in the school.

The traditional ruler, therefore, lauded the club for the timely intervention, which he said would improve access to quality education in the community.

Inaugurating the project, the Club’s President, Mr Max Amuchie, said the club was constructing two blocks of classrooms, head teacher’s office and three toilets for the pupils and teachers.

Amuchie said the project was part of the club’s strategic plan for its adopted community to improve their wellbeing and address any of their challenges.

“In one of our visits to the community, we discovered that they only have a blocks of two classrooms and a collapsed toilet that was no longer in use.

“We believe that when you are given quality education at the primary level, it gives the child good opportunity to advance further in life.

“So, there is so much emphasis on quality education at basic level and that is one of the cornerstones of Rotary Club,” he said.

Amuchie added that the school project would enable the students in the community develop and compete with children from other schools.

The president revealed that the project was estimated to cost about N6 million

He also disclosed that the classrooms and office would be fully furnished and toilets equipped according to modern standard.

On his part, Dr Goddy Nnadi, the District Governor, Rotary District 9123 urged the community to support them execute the project and ensure its maintenance.

Nnadi, represented by Mr Nimi Lawrence, past president, Rotary Club of Abuja Karu Housing Estate, commended members of the club for their contribution towards impacting the lives of people at the grassroots.

Other members of the club of Abuja at the event included Mr Yelwa Abubakar, Vice President and Co-Chair, Community Service and Projects Committee.

Others were Mrs Aisha Ali, President-Elect; Lauratu Yenwan, Secretary; Ms Helen Bassey, Assistant Secretary and Mrs Kate Sambo-Adamu, Director of International Service.
