The Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, Isyaku Bawa Kuta, has sworn in seven newly appointed supervisory councillors, charging them to uphold accountability, teamwork and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
A statement by the Principal Information Officer of the local government, Abubakar Abdullahi el-Kurebe, said the swearing-in ceremony, which took place on Wednesday at the Local Government Secretariat in Kuta, formally marked the commencement of the appointees’ official responsibilities across key sectors of local governance.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Kuta expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the smooth conduct of the ceremony and described the appointments as a call to service rather than privilege. He urged the Supervisory Councillors to work collectively with a strong sense of responsibility to support his administration’s agenda for sustainable development in Shiroro Local Government Area.

The Chairman emphasised the importance of unity, loyalty and accountability, noting that effective teamwork remains central to improved governance and service delivery at the grassroots.
“We expect commitment, transparency and cooperation from all of you as we strive to deliver meaningful development to the people of Shiroro,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Supervisory Councillor for Medical and Health, Hon. Ezekiel Iko, delivered a vote of thanks, appreciating the Chairman for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged their collective resolve to work diligently and contribute positively to the growth and development of the local government.
The newly sworn-in Supervisory Councillors and their portfolios are:
- Hon. Gambo Ahmed (Bangajiya Ward) – Works and Housing
- Hon. Ezekiel Iko (Gurmana Ward) – Medical and Health
- Hon. Sarah Kwasau (Manta Ward) – Education
- Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim (Kato/Gijiwa Ward) – Agriculture
- Hon. Hajara Yahaya Haruna (Kushaka/Kurebe Ward) – Research and Planning
- Hon. Umar Kabiru (Egwa/Gwada Ward) – Special Duties
- Hon. Luka Bala (Kwaki/Chukuba Ward) – Political and Strategy
Those in attendance included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Janet Sabastine Auta; the council’s Legal Officer, Her Lordship Halima Yusuf, who administered the oath of office; top management staff of the council, traditional representatives and other well-wishers.
The ceremony concluded with goodwill messages and prayers for the success of the new Supervisory Councillors in their respective assignments.
