Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), former Chief of Staff to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In a condolence message issued by his Media Office, the Sultan extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late General, the Emir of Ilorin, and the government and people of Kwara State over the loss of one of their illustrious sons.
The late General Mohammed, who passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the age of 86, was described by the Sultan as a patriotic Nigerian, disciplined officer, and elder statesman who served the nation with integrity and distinction.
“Late General Mohammed was not only a fine and brilliant officer but also a patriotic Nigerian and a man of unquestionable integrity who dedicated his life to national service,” the Sultan stated.
The Sultan noted that while the death was painful, it was also a reminder of the inevitability of Allah’s will.
“Since Allah, who gives life, takes it at any time He wishes, we are incapacitated and can only fervently pray that Allah forgives him his sins and grants him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus,” he added.
Major General Abdullahi Adamgba Mohammed (rtd) served as Military Governor of Benue-Plateau State under General Murtala Mohammed’s regime between 1975 and 1976. He later became Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo (1999–2007) and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (2007–2008).
He died at his residence in Abuja, leaving behind a legacy of exemplary service to Nigeria.
