Bauchi State First Lady, Aisha Bala Mohammed, has commended Nigerian girls for championing education, health, and dignity — showing resilience and leadership even in crisis.
Speaking at the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child celebration in Bauchi, themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crisis,” she said girls are “not just part of the future — they are shaping it right now.”
Mrs. Mohammed highlighted how Bauchi girls are leading campaigns on menstrual hygiene, environmental protection, and community service. She reaffirmed the state’s commitment to expanding education access, ending child marriage and gender-based violence, and promoting digital learning.
“Through the Bauchi Girl Child Education Initiative, thousands of girls have returned to school — and we will continue until every girl has the chance to learn and grow,” she said.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawan Mohammed Rimin Zayam, described girls as “leaders of today,” while AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Ladi Hamma Mohammed, urged sustained support for girls’ education.
UNFPA Executive Director, Ms. Diene Keita, in a message read by the organization’s Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst, Debora Tabara, said girls globally are “on the frontlines of crisis — and of their own future.”
She called for safe spaces, life skills, and inclusive education for all girls.
UNFPA Resident Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Muriel Mafiko, praised the Bauchi First Lady’s commitment to empowering women and girls, pledging continued UNFPA support.
