Over fifty (50) affected staff under the 7.5% Contributory Pension Scheme in Shiroro Local Government Area have met with the Director of Administration (D.A.), Mohammed Beji, to deliberate on issues affecting their pension contributions, including unpaid balances, mop-up irregularities, zero accounts, and underpayments.
The meeting, which was held on Wednesday at the Shiroro Local Government Secretariat in Kuta, provided an opportunity for open discussions between the management, staff representatives, and union officials on how to address lingering pension-related concerns.
In his opening remarks, Yakubu Garba, NULGE Shiroro Branch Secretary, commended the D.A. for his continuous commitment to staff welfare and called for stronger collaboration among staff, unions, and management to ensure lasting solutions.
Presenting the collective position of the affected workers, Thomas Mathew (JP) appreciated the support of NULGE, NLC, NUT, and MHWUN (Shiroro Branches) for their consistent advocacy. He urged intensified engagement with the Niger State Labour Congress (NLC) and the State Pensions Board to ensure fairness and justice for all affected employees.
Responding, the Director of Administration, Mohammed Beji, commended the maturity, unity, and commitment shown by the affected staff. He specifically acknowledged Abubakar Abdullahi el-Kurebe (Information Unit) and Abubakar Zakari (Baba Bujeco) from the Health Department for their dedication and sincerity in following up on the matter.
Beji reaffirmed management’s commitment to a transparent and coordinated resolution process, stressing the importance of teamwork with NULGE and other relevant stakeholders. He also appealed for continued patience and unity among the affected workers as efforts are intensified to engage higher authorities for a lasting solution.
At the end of the meeting, delegates were nominated to represent the affected staff in subsequent discussions with the NLC Niger State Chapter and the Niger State Pensions Board.
