With preparations for the 2025 Hajj in full swing, at least 1,700 intending pilgrims from Sokoto State have made their initial deposits, according to the state’s Pilgrims Welfare Agency.
The agency’s acting secretary, Ladan Ibrahim, shared this update during a media briefing on Monday, highlighting both the progress made and the challenges ahead.
“We have already secured accommodation in both Mecca and Medina, finalized agreements with catering services, and arranged comfortable camp facilities for our pilgrims. So far, the state has remitted over ₦5 billion to NAHCON,” Ladan stated.

Sokoto State has been allocated 5,216 Hajj slots by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), but Ladan expressed concern that many intending pilgrims, particularly from rural areas, are struggling to meet the payment deadline.
“In the past, we were allowed to make payments even after Ramadan. If NAHCON grants an extension of at least two weeks, we are confident that all allocated slots will be fully subscribed,” he appealed.
He also disclosed that discussions are ongoing with the state government for additional financial support to assist pilgrims in meeting their obligations.
“Last year, the governor provided financial assistance to pilgrims, and we are hopeful that similar support will be available this year,” he added.
Ladan reassured intending pilgrims that the agency remains committed to ensuring a smooth and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all participants from Sokoto State.
